One of my favorite authors has certainly done it again. My eyes have held fast to Grace In Thine Eyes all week long as I have picked up this book at every possible moment.

The setting is Scotland in the early 1800's and the tale is about a bonny lass named Davina McKie. Davina has been unable to speak since her childhood and because of her mutness, her younger twin brothers, Will and Sandy, have vowed offer her their protection. However, Davina may be mute, but she is not silenced as she has been gifted with musical ability. Her fiddle many times serves as her voice. Also, rounding out the McKie family is Davina's older brother Ian, along with her parents Jamie and Leanna.


The turn of events begin to change when Jamie sends the twin brothers off to Edinburgh to further their education. Will and Sandy are no less thrilled to leave their fairy like sister behind. Eldest brother Ian becomes Davina's escort, but he himself has duties around Glentrool along with a bonny distraction in that of Margaret McMillan. While traveling, Jamie comes up with a wonderful plan to send Davina off the beautiful Isle of Arran to visit some distant cousins.

Davina is excited for the opportunity and packs her bags along with her sketch book, and her fiddle. However, Davina is young, innocent and unprepared for the events that take place during her travel to Arran and in one short summer, her life becomes forever altered.

As we read this timeless tale of revenge, and broken dreams, we will come face to face with a case of extreme mercy.

I would encourage you to read the authors previous books called Thorn in My Heart, Fair is the Rose, and Whence Came a Prince. These books will provide helpful background information into the McKie family and makes for exciting reading. You can also pick up Grace in Thine Eyes and read it and probably be able to follow along without to much confusion. If this is your first time reading one of her historical Scottish novels, you might enjoy reading through the glossary in the back of the book.
