The Redemption of Sarah Cain

Title: The Redemption of Sarah Cain
Author: Beverly Lewis
Genre: Fiction

For those who are unfamiliar with Beverly Lewis, most of her books give great insight to the Amish culture. The author herself spent her early years living among the farmland of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. I also found it interesting to learn that Beverly Lewis is a graduate of Evangel University.

The Redemption of Sarah Cain is a contemporary fiction story, but it could happen in real life. Sarah Cain is a modern woman who enjoys all the technology and benefits her job as a real estate agent affords her. She has ridiculed her sister’s choice of living the Plain life-style and the two of them have grown apart over the last 12 years. The news of her sister’s sudden death stuns her, but even more, the fact that Sarah is the first choice to be the legal guardian of her 5 Plain children.

The oldest daughter, Lydia has made a promise to her mother to keep her siblings all together. However, finding out that her guardian is her well-to-do aunt, keeping the family together proves to be challenging. Lydia herself is quickly falling in love with the most handsome boy in all of Lancaster County, Levi King, but Aunt Sarah does not understand Amish courting and threatens to split the two of them up for good.

What will Sarah do with 5 Amish orphans on her hands? What will happen to Lydia and her siblings?

I enjoyed this simple, easy to read book. I also enjoyed how Beverly Lewis knit this story of healing together. I don’t think there is any greater grief than loosing a loved one, and the healing process is a slow one. This story is gently woven together with a nice, happy ending.
